There’s an undeniable poetic quality to the Italian language. “House of Art” would land on the ear with a dull thud, not at all an appropriate sensation for a beautiful little hotel in the Tuscan country about an hour’s drive outside of Siena. But Residenza d’Arte: now that’s more like it.
It’s not there just for the sound, of course. This place, already striking enough in the way only a sprawling stone farmhouse in a 14th-century Tuscan village can be, is positively brimming with arte — both indoors, with artworks liberally distributed throughout the guest rooms and public spaces, and out, where a sculpture garden joins the typically Tuscan vistas of cypress trees and olive groves.
With just eight rooms it feels almost as if it’s all yours, and the paintings aside, it’s an absolute classic: stone fireplaces, arches, exposed timbers, and picture-book views. You don’t come to Tuscany without at least thinking about food and wine, and likely consuming quite a bit of both; wine tours of Montalcino can be arranged, and a nearby restaurant offers instruction in classic Tuscan cooking — and more exotic outings like bike tours and hot air balloon rides are available as well.
Please note: Relais Residenza d'Arte will be closed for the month of August due to necessary maintenance work on the church of the abode.
How to get there:
Relais Residenza d'Arte is approximately a 1 hour 45 minute drive from Rome-Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci Airport and 1 hour from Florence-Perentola Amerigo Vespucci. There is also a train station in Torrita di Siena with transportation to Chiusi (about 20 minutes), from which one can arrive in Rome and Firenze in a little more than 1 hour.

What I liked:
This was the most unique experience we've ever had at a hotel. I'm not sure I would even call this a hotel, as it was more of a B&B personal experience. We felt like we were guests on their estate. The hospitality was outstanding and we enjoyed every minute. They gave us recommendations each day for day trips and every night for a fabulous restaurant. I wouldn't change a thing. The view was SPECTACULAR! The pictures really do present reality.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!

What I liked:
We've been to Italy many times but have never really explored the countryside of Tuscany. This hotel is situated in a very nice location for doing day trips (we actually didn't even go into Torrita di Siena itself since we were busy visiting other cities). Siena is about 45-60 min away, Cortona about 30-45 and Montepulciano is only about 15-20 min. The rooms are very nice, with above average showers. The property manager, Georges, makes a great breakfast and has great recommendations on places to go/places to eat
