One look and it’s obvious that Semiramis is a radical departure from the norm: bold swathes of day-glo color set it immediately apart from the icy cool of most modern boutique hotels, not to mention the monochrome white of the typical Greek luxury hotel. Puzzling, unless you happen to follow contemporary industrial design, in which case two words explain it all: Karim Rashid.

He’s the prince of plastic, the Sultan of sensory overload, maybe Baron von Blobject if you’re inclined to take it a little too far: his designs strive toward a futuristic fusion of the organic and the high-tech, all rendered in colors that move otherwise cool-headed journalists to metaphors about psychotropic drugs. Ironically, he himself dresses entirely and exclusively in ascetic white, the implications of which are probably beyond the scope of this review and frankly beyond the interest of most prospective Semiramis hotel guests.

However unconventional, Semiramis is underneath it all simply a luxury boutique, albeit one imprinted with Rashid’s utopian vision. It’s soft-edged and garishly colored, but beyond that it’s the sort of place you can check into for a weekend or longer without feeling the need to leave — this is fortunate, as its location in the upmarket northern suburb of Kifissia means it’s not exactly in the thick of it all.

So instead of sightseeing or rampaging through some city-center nightclubs, guests avail themselves of luxury-hotel pursuits both traditional and not: they loll by the poolside, take all manner of spa treatments, wander about indoors perusing the owner’s prodigious and ever-rotating art collection, and if they’re design junkies, spend time appreciating some of the most bizarre fixtures and furnishings in any hotel anywhere. Kifissa does have its own modest though upscale collection of shops and restaurants and bars — the Semiramis restaurant, though, is not to be missed, for the artworks, the industrial design, or for that matter the food.

A hotel experience not to be missed!

By kquigley607713 based in Long Island City

Overall rating: Excellent

I Liked

Everything! We went with another couple who were visiting Greece. They had a pool bungalow room with a private garden and we had a superior room with a balcony. Both were fantastic - clean, bright, fun with very comfortable beds. Service was greatl and the restaurant served excellent food. Since we live here, we will definitely visit the restaurant again. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The pool was also clean and very cool - literally and figuratively! Once in the hotel, you really could be anywhere in the world - a real escape. Important note - we did visit in August when the hotel is virtually empty which suited us perfectly. However, according to the concierge, it is considered a business hotel and is very busy the rest of the year, so if you're looking for something quiet, this might not be the place.

I Disliked

Absolutely nothing!

Review

Amazing and impressive use of materials and colours - still the end result was pretty calming thanks to soft forms. Service was friendly. My poolside bungalow was spacious, beautifully designed, the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was pretty spacious and the natural light from a big window made it feel bigger. Toiletteries were good (Korres products) but the vanity kit was wet. Overall, I was really pleased with my short stay - definitely a Tablet Hotel.

What is the Tablet Hotels Meter?

The Tablet Hotels Meter is a running average of the ratings given to a hotel by registered Tablet Hotels users who have actually stayed at the hotel. The scores are based on responses to our feedback survey, which is sent automatically to every user after the completion of a hotel stay booked through Tablet Hotels. We receive responses every day, the scores change accordingly - in real-time.

Tablet Hotels hotel ranking meter

This way we can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the rating process - on some travel websites, there is nothing preventing the General Manager from giving his own hotel a perfect score, or the concierge from across the street, posing as a dissatisfied guest, giving his competitor all zeros. You have probably seen questionable user reviews on other websites, whether flowery advertising copy written by fake guests, or vague negative attacks written anonymously. You will not see any of this on Tablet Hotels.

How does a hotel remain a Tablet Hotel?

We have selected nothing but the most unique and extraordinary properties from around the world, but circumstances at individual hotels can change quickly. Therefore it is up to our customers to inform us if one of our properties has taken a turn for the worse. The Tablet Hotels Meter works on a 20-point scale, and for a hotel to keep its place on Tablet Hotels, the magic number is 15.

This is not just an arbitrary figure; we have two years' worth of data, from past user feedback, and we have found that the hotels whose scores drop below 15 are those experiencing recurring problems, and guest detailed reports reflect the same serious concern, whether it be service, room quality, noise or something else.

The Tablet Hotels Meter will not display a score until we have had at least two customers rate the hotel. This way one person's unfortunate stay cannot carry too much weight. And once five guests have returned their verdicts, the rating becomes a more scientific measure of the opinion of the average guest. At this point, if the hotel's average overall score drops below 15, the hotel will be automatically removed from the site.

Your opinion really does count; in this case, it is the only thing keeping the hotels you visit on the site. On a more positive note, the hotels with top scores are featured in our "Tablet 10" lists. And as a side benefit, this system will encourage hotels to extend their best level of service to Tablet Hotels users - we turn every Tablet Hotels client into a reviewer!

Hotel Review and Travel Recommendation Guidelines

This is a moderated forum; all hotel reviews and travel recommendations must follow the Tablet Hotels and Tablet Talk guidelines below. We will not publish a hotel review or a travel recommendation unless it is:

Original

Please don't quote from other sources or otherwise reprint material published elsewhere, including your own comments on other travel review sites.

Relevant to other travelers

This is not a forum for general political, ethical or religious opinions. Nor is it a place for questions or comments directed to property representatives, Tablet Inc. staff, or other Tablet Talk members - we encourage you to use private channels for such communications. It should go without saying that we don't want to see personal insults or language that a reasonable observer might deem offensive. And please keep your submissions current - no need to mention a trip that happened more than two years ago.

A personal opinion or recommendation

Hotel reviews are restricted to verified guests who booked their stays through TabletHotels.com. Likewise, travel recommendations must be based on first-hand experience. No recommendations or reviews written by owners or managers posing as guests, or by current or past employees, or second-hand hearsay from others. If your friend/cousin/neighbor has something to contribute then you should invite them to join the community so that they may share their opinions themselves.

We do not allow recommendations to be written based on incentives from property owners/management. Offering discounts or upgrades or other special treatment in exchange for reviews is very much against the rules, and any property found to be engaging in this sort of thing will be dealt with most unforgivingly.

Non-commercial

Comment spam is a serious problem, and we will reject even the most borderline cases. No commercial web address, e-mail addresses or contact information. No promotional material of any kind. We reserve the right to reject any URL for any reason.

Written with standard e-mail etiquette

This is a forum with a broad readership; don't assume that hotel owners in Milan and travel agents in Guangzhou are familiar with the latest slang and shorthand, or that typographic symbols will be rendered properly across all platforms. Please don't shout in ALL CAPS - in general, keep it readable. And for various boring technical reasons, HTML tags and most forms of text and paragraph formatting, even simple lists, will not survive the posting process.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.

The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question. We reserve the right to remove any of the review or management response at our discretion.
