Shore Club is one of those chic hotels, a magnet for the jet set and for the entertainment and fashion elite — and why not? This is a place with all the hipster cachet of the other uber-modern nightclub hotels, with an added bonus: some real, substantive luxury, from its exclusive atmosphere, keeping out the more craven celeb-watchers, to its richly appointed rooms, with 400-thread-count bedding and massive bathrooms (and Molton Brown bath products).

The design, by David Chipperfield, is close to the edge, but unlike some fashionable hotels, this one is unlikely to need a redesign every season. Guest rooms have a bit more personality than the standard white-on-cream décor, and plenty of space to boot. Suites have striking ocean views, and some rooms have classic poolside baclonies. Eight two-story private cabanas are available, and true recluses can spring for the Beach House, with private gated pool and private beach access, or the Penthouse Suite — 6000 square feet spread over three floors with rooftop pool, private steam room and sauna, and a 360-degree view of South Beach and the ocean. Services across the hotel include 24-hour butler service and a complement of beach services, such as beach-side dining or massage.

Miami's first Nobu restaurant calls the Shore Club home, and Skybar's deep red poolside club is one of Miami's most in-demand nightspots — keep that in mind if you're a light sleeper, or a private type. This is no hotel for the reclusive or the retiring — the Shore Club is for those who like their luxury with a side of nightlife.

Hotel Policies:

During high season, there may be a minimum stay requirement of 3 to 5 nights weekends and/or weekdays.

Kids:

Guests over the age of 21 are considered adults. Some rooms accommodate 3 or more. The "Loft queen/queen" room sleeps up to 4 guests. For crib/cot, must book "Superior" room or larger. For 2 adults + rollaway bed, must book "Deluxe" or larger. For 2 adults + 2 kids beyond crib age, must book "Superior queen/queen" room or larger. Connecting rooms available. Can be confirmed upon reservation.

Cribs are available and may be subject to an additional fee. Roll-away beds available for an additional fee of US$35.00. No additional charges for kids beyond crib/roll-away.

Fenced in pool available that allows kids. Babysitting services provided by screened outside help at US$20.00 per hour. The restaurant is kid-friendly with high chairs. Room service offers a kids menu. N/A

    Service, location and the beach.

What the hotel could do better

The outrageous party scene which bordered on obnoxious. The prices were pretty obscene for mediochre food as well.

The public spaces are fantastic. Love the pool, the beach, the bar, the restaurants. The staff are also very friendly. Good location, too.

What the hotel could do better

Make sure you get a room with altitude. The public spaces, while extremely fun when you're participating, are very loud and run very late. Unless you're up high, you'll have a hard time falling asleep.

The rooms, too are a bit harsh. Everything is concrete, and there is almost no decor. Certainly nothing to soften the rooms, aside from the voile curtains. The layout is thoughtful, and if you're a modernist, you'll like the minimalism, but there is again the problem of noise, no matter what floor you're on. Sound echoes off the concrete, as do vibrations. When housekeeping were making the beds in the morning, I felt every piece of furniture moved in the other rooms.

an incredible lobby that draws you in... not to mention the beautiful people lounging about. the rooms are small but clean and resort-like. be very careful -- some rooms can smell a bit mouldy because of being so close to the beach.

loved eating at nobu... great beach area... i had a great time.

What the hotel could do better

can't say there was much to dislike.

The only thing I really liked about the hotel was the location. And the shower in the bathroom was pretty good.

What the hotel could do better

There is so much that I disliked about the hotel. The room is like a cell. I am all for a minimal aesthetic, but this takes it to an unnecessary extreme. Cement tile floors in the rooms and a dirty sliding glass door onto a tiny patio with a sliver-sized view of the ocean. The room was incredibly run down with dirty curtains, laminate that was coming off the bathroom doors, and a bed that had faulty springs. The whole thing felt dirty. The service was terrible (every day I had to call and ask to have my room made up as it often wouldn't be done by 3 or 4 pm). On top of it all, this is a party hotel and, as my room was right above the bar and pool area, the party would rage on until 2 am and I would feel like i was trying to sleep right in the middle of it all.

For $800+ a night, I would expect this to be a luxury experience. Instead, it is a completley second rate hotel that is using it's uber-chic status to try to pull the wool over peoples eyes.

The pool and outdoor atmosphere is the best in South Beach. Great DJ, drinks and food poolside with a really fun crowd. Gorgeous style. Helpful, nice staff, despite exclusivity.

What the hotel could do better

The rooms are super small and have concrete floors, which means you can hear echos of steps and voices in the hallway all night long (and it's definitely a hotel for night owls.)

Also, and this is almost anywhere popular, but you have to get up really early to get a poolside chaise.
