Some hotels may charge extra for a rollaway bed or a crib - depending upon age. This possible extra charge is not always displayed by the hotel to appear with the list of available rates offered.
In order to make sure that you see the exact rate that you will be charged for an accommodation for more than 2 adults, it is best to double-check by
emailing us at customer service
with your dates and the ages of your children. We will be happy to confirm rates and availability for you.
We now have a new service dedicated to those Tablet Hotels users traveling with children that searches only the verified kid-friendly hotels.

Some call Shutters on the Beach the most comfortable hotel in the world — and they may be right. It's just the perfect mix of that Deco glamour, old world coziness and modern LA laissez-faire, but it also has a lot of what the modern traveler wants — quiet.
Though we all like to be near the buzz, sometimes we don't want to feel like we're smack in the center, and Shutters on the Beach, which is invisible from the road, is that perfect paradox: an urban hotel that feels like a resort. For a long time, it was the only beachfront hotel in Santa Monica — or in all of LA, for that matter. And due to some marvel in modern architecture, every room looks out to the sea.
Here, comfort is favored above style. Though the building is 1993, it's full of flowered trellises, oversized sofas and a fireplace in the lobby. The bedrooms are pale with checked armchairs, white tiled fireplaces in the suites and blue and white pinstriped sheets. The café is about as jazzy as it gets — but 1950s jazzy, with lipstick red chairs and black and white tiled floors. Not exactly innovative, but easy on the eye.
Every inch of Shutters is designed to unwind — whether you're on the patio gazing at the beach, or in the lobby snuggled by the fireside. Lying by the pool is the quintessential LA fantasy as you watch the sea through stretches of sand and palm trees. And of course there's always the spa.
They'll even pack you a picnic if you want to stay outside. But a warning, the beach outside your window is sort of a public thoroughfare, so while the Café patio is perfect fo Venice Beach people-watching, you might not exactly want to use it for sun-bathing. Instead make use of the hotel's namesake — the actual shutters between your bathroom and bedroom. Open them, sink into your extravagantly deep whirlpool bath, and you can see straight out to the ocean.
The refusal to serve us a meal at 9.45pm even though the restaurant is advertised to shut at 10
The staff leaving us on hold for 25 minutes while we tried to get a table.....from 9.20pm!
The awful food at poolside
The attempt to add a gratuity of 63$ on our 50$ bill
The staff on arrival being rude
The room being tiny and the "balcony" being a shelf as wide as a chair......not exaggerating
The view i=onto a poor patch of beach
All for the "special " price of $595 a night exclusive of several taxes. Price, small room and 50$ of awful food....$800
They failed to apologise for keeping us on hold, refusing to serve us (empty restaurant but they said reservation essential hence our call from our room.....put on hold for 25 minutes)
All in all it is well hyped but fails to deliver. It's poor.
Loved the amenities, the rooms, the whole feeling of the hotel - relaxed and sophisticated. A wonderful combination
I Disliked
Must say that the restaurants were NOT up to the standard of a hotel of this stature. My breakfast at th cafe was served cold. Dinner at One Pico was average. Long wait to get our reserved seats, food not all that great.
paperthin walls. nothing but noise and staff slamming doors. took 35min to get my car from valet. pathetic service for a hotel with such a lovely location and opty to stand out from the others
The Tablet Hotels Meter is a running average of the ratings given to a hotel by registered Tablet Hotels users who have actually stayed at the hotel. The scores are based on responses to our feedback survey, which is sent automatically to every user after the completion of a hotel stay booked through Tablet Hotels. We receive responses every day, the scores change accordingly - in real-time.
This way we can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the rating process - on some travel websites, there is nothing preventing the General Manager from giving his own hotel a perfect score, or the concierge from across the street, posing as a dissatisfied guest, giving his competitor all zeros. You have probably seen questionable user reviews on other websites, whether flowery advertising copy written by fake guests, or vague negative attacks written anonymously. You will not see any of this on Tablet Hotels.
How does a hotel remain a Tablet Hotel?
We have selected nothing but the most unique and extraordinary properties from around the world, but circumstances at individual hotels can change quickly. Therefore it is up to our customers to inform us if one of our properties has taken a turn for the worse. The Tablet Hotels Meter works on a 20-point scale, and for a hotel to keep its place on Tablet Hotels, the magic number is 15.
This is not just an arbitrary figure; we have two years' worth of data, from past user feedback, and we have found that the hotels whose scores drop below 15 are those experiencing recurring problems, and guest detailed reports reflect the same serious concern, whether it be service, room quality, noise or something else.
The Tablet Hotels Meter will not display a score until we have had at least two customers rate the hotel. This way one person's unfortunate stay cannot carry too much weight. And once five guests have returned their verdicts, the rating becomes a more scientific measure of the opinion of the average guest. At this point, if the hotel's average overall score drops below 15, the hotel will be automatically removed from the site.
Your opinion really does count; in this case, it is the only thing keeping the hotels you visit on the site. On a more positive note, the hotels with top scores are featured in our "Tablet 10" lists. And as a side benefit, this system will encourage hotels to extend their best level of service to Tablet Hotels users - we turn every Tablet Hotels client into a reviewer!
This is a moderated forum; all hotel reviews and travel recommendations must follow the Tablet Hotels and Tablet Talk guidelines below. We will not publish a hotel review or a travel recommendation unless it is:
Original
Please don't quote from other sources or otherwise reprint material published elsewhere, including your own comments on other travel review sites.
Relevant to other travelers
This is not a forum for general political, ethical or religious opinions. Nor is it a place for questions or comments directed to property representatives, Tablet Inc. staff, or other Tablet Talk members - we encourage you to use private channels for such communications. It should go without saying that we don't want to see personal insults or language that a reasonable observer might deem offensive. And please keep your submissions current - no need to mention a trip that happened more than two years ago.
A personal opinion or recommendation
Hotel reviews are restricted to verified guests who booked their stays through TabletHotels.com. Likewise, travel recommendations must be based on first-hand experience. No recommendations or reviews written by owners or managers posing as guests, or by current or past employees, or second-hand hearsay from others. If your friend/cousin/neighbor has something to contribute then you should invite them to join the community so that they may share their opinions themselves.
We do not allow recommendations to be written based on incentives from property owners/management. Offering discounts or upgrades or other special treatment in exchange for reviews is very much against the rules, and any property found to be engaging in this sort of thing will be dealt with most unforgivingly.
Non-commercial
Comment spam is a serious problem, and we will reject even the most borderline cases. No commercial web address, e-mail addresses or contact information. No promotional material of any kind. We reserve the right to reject any URL for any reason.
Written with standard e-mail etiquette
This is a forum with a broad readership; don't assume that hotel owners in Milan and travel agents in Guangzhou are familiar with the latest slang and shorthand, or that typographic symbols will be rendered properly across all platforms. Please don't shout in ALL CAPS - in general, keep it readable. And for various boring technical reasons, HTML tags and most forms of text and paragraph formatting, even simple lists, will not survive the posting process.

Tablet Inc. reserves the right to remove any hotel review or travel recommendation at its sole discretion, for violation of the above guidelines or for any other reasons.
These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.
The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question. We reserve the right to remove any of the review or management response at our discretion.
