Yes, that Sundance. To many minds, this is just another aspect of the multi-faceted house that Robert Redford built, and the fact that it’s a first-class ski getaway is almost secondary. But as many a proud Utahn knows, once you ski Park City, you might never bother with Aspen (or Vail, or Tahoe) again.
It’s hardly a typical ski resort. Here, at the foot of Mount Timpanogos, conservation is paramount, and you’ll find the development has been as sensitive as possible. It’s part eco-lodge, part artists’ community, which is not just ethically correct but also quite aesthetically satisfying; the lofts and suites are understated, with a certain hand-crafted quality, and the freestanding cottages are immersed in the landscape, surrounded by picture-perfect Rocky Mountain pine forest.
The feel is residential, as befits a remote mountain escape — you’ll have at least a fridge and microwave, if not a proper kitchen. For those in search of extra space some full-sized privately-owned mountain homes are offered for rent, and everyone is entitled to a bit of high luxury in the spa. Art classes are available, as are screenings of films from the Sundance festival, and between the upscale Tree Room and the hearty Foundry Grill there’s no way to go hungry.
How to get there:
From SLC/Airport
When exiting the airport, turn right onto I-80 east. Then turn right onto I-215 heading south. Next take I–15 South towards Provo. Continue on I-15 to exit #272 (which is 800 North in Orem) turn left heading east.
Stay on 800 North through Orem to the mouth of the canyon. Stay in left hand lane, which will drop onto Hwy 189.
Continue up the canyon approximately 7 miles to Scenic Route #92 which is the first left after the tunnel. Sundance is 2 miles up the canyon on the left.
From Park City
Take Hwy 248 (Kearns Boulevard) to Highway 40. Turn south (right) onto Highway 40 towards Heber City.
Drive through Heber City and turn right onto Highway 189 towards Provo.
Three miles past Deer Creek Reservoir, turn right onto Scenic Route 92 and continue for 2 miles to Sundance.

What I liked:
My husband and I loved being up in Utah, near Park City. The mountains are gorgeous and it was our first time there. Unfortunately, we only had one short night, but it was worth it even for those short hours.
What the hotel could do better:
When we were shown to our rooms, it was fairly confusing. The cabins all look very alike and are close together -- a bit more care would've been nice. And we weren't asked if we wanted our bags taken up, which would've been good. We ended up trudging them up the many outdoor stairs ourselves, late that night.
