In Hollywood the line between history and kitsch is so fine as to be practically non-existent. But one way or another the Sunset Tower manages to land on the right side of the line. In the latter years of the golden age this Art Deco apartment tower was home to the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra; and while today the mid-century atmosphere is still in place, it’s no museum — there’s nothing faded about the newly renovated Sunset Tower’s sober, earth-toned interiors, and it’s not collectors or autograph hounds but bona fide Hollywood players who frequent its halls today.
The décor is seemingly tailor-made for the golden afternoon sunlight that brought the film business to LA in the first place. It’s not quite high luxury, but it’s pleasantly upscale, with high-end Egyptian linens and Kiehl’s bath products. And if there’s any incongruity, it’s between the classic elegance of the Sunset Tower and the very modern inelegance of the Sunset Strip. It’s a locale that’s best enjoyed with a raised eyebrow, and then escaped, with a trip to the Sunset Tower’s day spa or to the Tower Bar and Restaurant, a clubby, classic eatery on the site of what used to be the apartment belonging to the gangster Bugsy Siegel.

What I liked:
My husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon and we were certainly treated like VIP's! We were upgraded to a gorgeous suite and were captivated by the amazing views from our balcony. The guest service agents were friendly and helpful in giving advice about the local attractions. I also work in a boutique hotel in the Midwest and truly appreciate genuine hospitality. The Sunset Tower certainly has it! Thank you so much for the amazing stay!

What I liked:
Loved the Tower Bar!
What the hotel could do better:
There was construction in the room next to ours, which we weren't notified about until we arrived (and then it was too late to do anything about it). No attempt was made to make up for the noise and mess (although both were minimal considering how bad it could have been).

What I liked:
I LOVE this hotel's style and "vibe," for lack of a better word. I'd stayed here once before and simply fell in love with the place. Many aspects of the Sunset Tower feel like an early-Hollywood time capsule, but there's not one thing musty or run-down about it. It manages to feel both modern and historical all at once. Love the people. Love the location. Love the building. Love the bar and the poolside dining. I will be returning as soon as possible.
What the hotel could do better:
This hotel leaves nothing to be desired. I wouldn't change a thing.
