The Angler's Boutique Resort
660 Washington Avenue
Miami Beach, FL, USA
Style: Contemporary Classic
Atmosphere: Lively
49 Rooms
Well south of Lincoln Way on a formerly neglected stretch of lower Washington Avenue, the Angler’s is a bit of a departure for South Beach hotels; visually it’s a Mediterranean Revival standout in the midst of the Art Deco district, and in terms of atmosphere, this enclosed residential compound feels miles more private than the big-show high-rise hotels along the seaside.
The original Angler’s hotel dates back to the Thirties, long enough ago that Hemingway drank here — surely he drank in at least as many places as George Washington slept, but it’s a bit of Miami history nonetheless. And its architectural credentials are certainly in order: after years of disuse the hotel’s original Henry Maloney structures have been thoroughly redesigned by celebrity designer Wallace Tutt (of Versace Mansion fame) and augmented by two buildings by famed Miami architect Allan Shulman.
Today’s Angler’s offers larger, more well-appointed rooms, as well as an air of discreet privacy about the place. The hotel’s suites come in split-level and studio plans, and come with most of the charms and conveniences of home — assuming home includes a plasma television, a stereo system with iPod docking station, and a wet bar, along with, in some cases, balconies and terraces.
Spa treatments are offered in-room or by the pool, and the designated beach area is just two blocks away. A French restaurant occupies the old main building of the original Angler’s hotel, if you’d like to stay in; and if not, Angler’s guests are offered VIP status at a number of South Beach nightclubs — and the nightlife, let’s face it, is no small part of Miami’s appeal.

Perfectly situated near all the South Beach attractions, but secluded enough to offer privacy and relaxation. Great friendly staff. Excellent rooms with clean, classic style. Our room with small patio and direct access to the courtyard pool felt like a home away from home.

The staff were very friendly and accomodating. Received an upgrade on check in to a spacious, well appointed room that looked over the pool area. Bar staff were equally as pleasant and service excellent. I loved the experience at the Anglers. Close to Ocean Avenue without the noise and people.
What the hotel could do better
Nothing really.

Although little time is spent in our hotel rooms, my friend and I realized from many of our trips that hotel selection is vital to having an enjoyable vacation. After doing ample amount of research we opted for Angler Hotel because it offered the best price for the rave reviews. It was unfortunate but understandable that the hotel was not able to offer us early check-in. They were more than willing to store our luggage in the meantime so we decided to walk around and hit the beach. The best part of the hotel is the location is a block north of Collins and great shops. All the minor services such as the nightly note stating the following days weather forecast gave us the added touch of comfort for our stay in Miami. The front desk service was polite, pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
What the hotel could do better
Asked for a reservation at a restaurant to be made, and was not confirmed.

The intimate, lush public spaces combined with terrific food, gracious and attentive service - created a serene and relaxing retreat from the somewhat chaotic environment of South Beach. The room was attractively modern, clean and very livable.
What the hotel could do better
Nothing.

My accommodations were spacious, elegant, well-appointed, and very comfortable and clean. Public spaces were very attractive (but awkward - see dislikes.)
What the hotel could do better
The hotel and its restaurant share the same entrance but there is no hotel lobby or visible front desk, so it was unclear to me if I was using the correct entrance upon arrival and there was no one to greet me until I located the front desk. This level of acknowledgement was consistent throughout my stay.

We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match.
