The Pink Palace has, in true Hollywood fashion, had some work done; nothing shocking, just a hundred-million-dollar renovation in an effort to stay competitive with a new generation. It’s a success—this place could have slid gently into self-parody, but it’s every bit as fine as when Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand stayed here (ostensibly separately) in 1960.
Even without the glow of celebrities long since faded, it’s a stunning hotel. The standard rooms are lavish enough, mixing modern amenities like Frette linens and oversized bathrooms with 1940s Hollywood-classic decor, complete with private balconies. For true luxury, take advantage of the sprawling hacienda-style grounds by booking one of the bungalows. Utter privacy and the option of butler service guarantee you’ll feel like a star, and the Presidential Bungalow comes with a private jacuzzi and lap pool.
The Polo Lounge, the flagship restaurant and bar, is particularly rich with history—Hunter S. Thompson famously drank here, and Sinatra’s Rat Pack had the run of the place. The gardens and landscaping surely hide some secrets as well, and the outdoor pathways are carpeted, for quieter sneaking. Facilities include the La Prairie spa and three restaurants, including the restored Fountain Coffee Shop (perfect for breakfast), where you never know who’ll discover you at the soda fountain and send you on your way.
The famous pool won’t disappoint either, with its green-and-white striped lounges (get to the pool early, as they are occupied quickly) and private cabanas complete with changing rooms and televisions, flanked by potted lemon trees and seahorse topiaries.
Please note: The Beverly Hills Hotel is currently updating the Cabana Café adjacent to the pool; the pool remains fully operational during this time and noise is limited as much as possible. The completion date is set to June 10th, 2013.

What I liked:
Iconic Hotel, great location.
What the hotel could do better:
But..............service can be indifferent. The pool and Cabana staff can be stroppy, the spa staff look down on you. $35 a night to park a car, $10 a day for WiFi, $100 a day in room taxes (not the hotel's fault of course), $10 for a jug of hot milk - plus tips. Will soon part you from your cash - double but....most of the staff are great, strangely the ones that don't always expect a 20% to give you 2 nanoseconds of attention. Room was lovely despite the stone cutting taking place each morning. Would have been nice to receive a warning that the hotel was undergoing works in the lobby throughout our stay. Not sure how long the pink and green can hold steady in the modern world.
