Something of a sequel to the Inn at the Spanish Steps, the Inn at the Roman Forum takes a very similar approach. This one, like the other, is a charming small hotel, with a personality all its own — this one tucked away down a very minor alleyway, but like the other, right next to one of Rome’s famous tourist attractions.

Which is why it’s remarkable just how quiet and private this place is. The fourteen rooms are all different, all plush and comfortable, the interiors livelier than the usual design-hotel fare — many come with whirlpool baths and all come with plasma televisions, DVD players, iPod stereo systems and a full complement of Etro bath products. Some of the rooms and suites open onto outdoor terraces, and there’s a garden terrace out back and a living room upstairs — but the greatest surprise, by far, has to be the crypt.

That’s right, the crypt; underneath this centuries-old building is a milennia-old Roman crypt, accessible via a little doorway behind the reception. That’s one amenity the average boutique hotel can’t match, though it’d be entertaining to see them try. Back in the land of the living, there’s no restaurant, and no room service — one advantage of the location, next to the Forum and a stone’s throw from the Colosseum, is that travelers find themselves well taken care of.

The location is ideal. 5 min from the forum, a short walk from the very busy center yet quiet and secluded. The hotel itself has some ruins of the roman town in the ground floor which gives it a great atmosphere. The room was spacious, as was and the area which they used for breakfast and afternoon snacks.

What the hotel could do better

The bed was not as comfortable as it should have been for the price-they should invest in american style matresses, and the breakfast eggs were always cold.

Location and the interior. This hotel is so hard to find, and when you do you are not so sure you have made a good chioce. The receiving room is small and like a tunnel. However you know your in a boutique hotel right away by how they great you. Very friendly staff, but when you get to the room it is a quite suprize. The decor is heave with drappy but not over the top. The old raw wood beams on the ceiling are like goin back in time. They just dont make place like this anymore, yet the best part is location. As soon as you step out turn the corner there are the ruins all around you. The hotel is also in walking distance to great little resturants. Dont bother calling a cab, the walk is why your there.

What the hotel could do better

They need better signage. I dont know the rules in Rome for signs, but when the cabies dont know about a place it is a little unnerving.

Loved the hotel and the incredibly accommodating staff. They even gave us a certificate to go to a complimentary happy hour at their sister hotel, the Inn at the Spanish Steps

What the hotel could do better

That we had to leave so soon.

Excellent service, location and atmosphere. Walking distance to Via del Corso, Spagna, Trevi and Colosseum.

Great free snack service from 5-8 pm which is also available at sister hotel at Spanish Steps.

What the hotel could do better

The Via degli Ibernesi is really narrow, short and can only be found from one direction. It is an excellent and quiet location. Our taxi driver however didn't find it and we had to walk. I would suggest to order the taxi service from the hotel :-)
