The state of Goa, on India’s west coast, is known for its spectacular beaches along the Arabian Sea, as well as for its Portuguese colonial past. The Leela avoids the former, set back as it is from the seaside and oriented around seventy-five acres of manicured tropical gardens and lagoons, even while it embraces the second, decorated in a style recalling both the Vijayangara Empire and the Portuguese missions.
That stunning beach is a short walk from the villas, and is privately owned by the Leela; so although only the best suites face the sea, all guests can partake of that legendary Goa white sand and the waters of the Arabian Sea.
The guest rooms and suites are spacious and airy, decorated in a contemporary Indian style, with furniture in dark hardwoods, marble bathrooms and private patios or balconies overlooking the lagoons. The royal villas and the presidential suites face the sea, and have private plunge pools; all rooms feature the standard modern conveniences, like satellite TV, CD sound systems and air conditioning.
Four restaurants and two bars serve the Leela’s patrons, and though there are a few other dining options nearby, the locale is not exactly a bustling nightlife destination. The Leela’s guests are more likely to be in search of a quiet retreat, a brief respite by the seaside or even a trip up the River Sal on a fishing boat. Business facilities are well-appointed, and a ten-hole par 3 golf course and a full-service spa are among the leisure facilities.

What I liked:
Unassuming service was about the best I have ever had. The small touched like being met at the airport by a complementary car with cold towels to wash away the tiredness of the journey and the heat of Goa.
The beach was private, beautiful and felt undisturbed, absolute relaxation.
What the hotel could do better:
Very little. It would have been good to know all the facilities of the hotel on arrivsl. We had a walk around but didn't really grasp the wealth of options in the hotel until we were on our holiday.
