The Listel Hotel
1300 Robson Street
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Style: Modern Design
Atmosphere: Lively
129 Rooms
Don’t let the slightly anonymous exterior put you off: once you’re inside, the Listel is one of Vancouver’s most stylish hotels. It’s a local favorite not just for its design — most boutique hotels these days can afford some decent modern furniture — but for its personality, something that many hotels find a bit more difficult to conjure up.
If you spend much time in Europe, especially the German-speaking parts, you’re familiar with the idea of the “art hotel,” where it’s the art collection, not the interior design, that takes center stage. The Listel is certainly an art hotel, with works throughout the rooms and the public spaces, and a look that’s more eclectic than minimal — and the art is eclectic as well, some of it contemporary, some of it from the First Nations, Canada’s indigenous people. And on top of that, it’s a jazz hotel, with live jazz nightly at O’Doul’s, the restaurant and bar.
As for the nuts and bolts of the place: out-and-out opulence isn’t what you’re here for, but the Listel is certainly comfortable, and efficient too. It’s equally well suited to business travelers and to shoppers who are here for a raid on Robson Street’s high-end retailers — and you’re not much farther from Stanley Park and its famous seawall.
How to get there:
The Listel Hotel from the Vancouver International Airport:
Follow Grant McConachie Way (the main road from the airport) over the Arthur Lange bridge. Take the Granville Street Exit, and follow Granville Street over the Granville Street Bridge. When exiting the bridge use the Seymour Street exit, follow Seymour Street for approximately 5 blocks to Robson Street, turn left on Robson Street and travel approximately 7 blocks to the hotel. The hotel is located on the left hand side of the road at 1300 Robson Street (at Jervis Street). Approximate driving time from the airport: 30 minutesPlease contact customerservice@tablethotels.com to arrange airport transfers.
