The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera

There’s a school of thought which maintains that ski hotels are best located slopeside, ski-in/ski-out if possible — and there’s something to that. But if you’ve spent time at Vail Village during peak season, you’ll appreciate the relative seclusion of a place like the Lodge at Cordillera, which is located a few minutes to the west of Vail proper, in the decidedly more rural town of Edwards.

That’s seclusion as in peace and quiet, not remoteness. It’s an effortless shuttle ride to the resorts at both Vail and Beaver Creek — and for guests of the skinny-ski persuasion, it’s possible to hit the Nordic trails from right outside your front door.

Not for nothing is the word “spa” right there in the name — for successful skiing, hot baths and massages are as vital as the snow. And like any mountain resort worth its salt, the Lodge at Cordillera is equally appealing during the offseason, with particular emphasis on golf: Cordillera has four first-rate private courses, plus an Irish-style pub for a bit of the old après-links refreshment.
