The Manor

The Manor is located in the upscale New Delhi suburb of New Friends Colony, a picturesque refuge from the gritty churn of the city proper — which, incidentally, has expanded its reach around and past the Colony, making the location more of a semi-urban enclave than a satellite suburb. Some fringe boutiques, especially around Indian cities, risk leaving you stranded, but this one is something of an attraction unto itself.

Fifties modernist construction is softened by the surrounding greenery, and the interiors bring a slew of colorful accents to a relaxing country-house palette of beige and caramel. Wide floorboards in the guest rooms and Italian mosaic floors in the public spaces provide a degree of welcome variation. Flatscreens and free internet are standard, and each bathroom is stocked with Kama Ayurveda products.

The sensibly named restaurant, Indian Accent, infuses modern Indian cuisine with a variety of global flavors, resulting in a range of compelling hybrid dishes such as masala miso. The bar scene spills out onto the patio, where guests mingle with neighborhood trendsetters and that subset of New Delhians which travels to New Friends Colony for a taste of modernist, luxe country living in the middle of their big city.
