Kowloon’s new Mira Hotel adds some serious artillery to the north/south rivalry surrounding Hong Kong Harbour. Slick without being slimy, the Mira is a cutting-edge modern property that lives up to its position in a true global capital without having to have a Hong Kong Island address. It’s proof a proper World-City–type hotel doesn’t have to be stiff or beige.

In this impossibly vertical city of towers, one is usually found either ponying up for a harbor view room, or settling for a view of someone else’s window. However, this is not the case at the Mira; located prominently across from the well-loved urban magnet of Kowloon Park, Mira affords many guests the luxury of a view of expansive, verdant greenery, a rare thing indeed in Hong Kong. That settled, there is plenty still left to choose. Basic rooms are yours to customize with a range of available color schemes, and suites are each unique. All accommodations are appropriately splashy with a bit of mid-century retro-futurism mixed in. Turns out pod chairs and space-age bathtubs actually mix rather well with a French meal à la room service and a tumbler of Glenfiddich.

And to that point, the Mira caters exceptionally well to the taste buds at all levels. There are three restaurants in house; contemporary French, traditional Cantonese, and a buffet-style range of all things in-between. To boot, a swanky lobby bar and a chocolate-themed café can fill in for any between meal cravings. The Mira’s spa is similarly successful at catering to the other four senses, with its glassy infinity pool, wide range of massage treatments, water beds and light therapy room.

How to get there:

The Mira Hong Kong is approximately 45 minutes from Hong Kong International Airport.
