In the heart of the Temple Bar district, the cultural center of Dublin, one may be surprised to find a hotel that so thoroughly dispenses with Irish tradition—not a hint of mahogany, antiques or country house style anywhere. The Morgan belongs to an entirely different tradition, though, one immediately familiar to the experienced traveler.

The Morgan is, for lack of a better term, something of a deluxe boutique. Though the look may be spare, heavy on the whites, it’s not for lack of imagination, and it’s certainly not to mask any deficit of comfort. The interior design, courtesy of the ironically named Pascal Morgue, is anything but morgue-like—if anything, it’s a vision of heaven. Beds are as thick and white as summer storm clouds, set against a backdrop in creams and off-whites, with light beechwood furnishings and modern artworks by Siobhan McDonald.

For all the fashion-forward design of the décor, though, there’s something natural about it, rather in the vein of some of London’s luxe modern hotels. Rather than coming off as a design statement, something confrontational, the Morgan somehow makes you feel as though hotels have always looked this way—no mean feat.

The Morgan Bar, true to form, is the archetypal high-design hotel bar, a sophisticated space to attract the city’s best and brightest. There’s stiff competition, though, in the Temple Bar district, and the concierge can recommend a watering hole for any appetite. Restaurants abound as well, and the Morgan’s central location offers easy access to the shops of Grafton Street, the theater district and Dublin’s business centers.
