The Pelham is a fine alternative to the flash and preciousness of some of London’s more overtly designed boutique hotels — it can be exhausting to spend time in a place that is striving so hard to be cool, and in contrast, it’s utterly refreshing to stay somewhere a little more restrained, a little more secure in itself.
The vibe is plainly country house, transplanted to busy South Kensington: an idea which in itself implies some level of gimmickry, but is in fact carried off with a natural ease. It’s no country house theme park—the rustic touches are judiciously applied, mixing contemporary pieces with antiques, and steering well clear of 19th-century fussiness.
Bedrooms are individually designed (must be an obscure London regulation) but all are richly decorated in a similar grand yet tasteful style. Modern equipment abounds as well, from broadband internet to mobile phones, and the television — long the bane of hotel room decorators — is discreetly hidden. Expect marble bathrooms, of course, but with added charms like heated towel bars and Molton Brown amenities.
The location is easily half the appeal, as the Victoria & Albert and Natural History museums are close by, as are Harrods and the Knightsbridge shops. This convenient situation makes the Pelham’s bar and restaurant a popular stop not just for tourists but for Londoners as well, and if you haven’t seen enough of him already you may spy the likes of Hugh Grant stopping in for a meal. South Kensington tube station is steps away, which means relatively easy access to Heathrow and anywhere else — hard to believe this country charmer is so close to the heart of the city.
How to get there:
The Pelham Hotel is just steps from the South Kensington tube station. If you’re arriving from Heathrow Airport the most convenient transfer option to central London is the Heathrow Express train, which leaves Heathrow Airport every 15 minutes and takes 15 minutes to arrive at Paddington Station. One-way fares are available from £18 and round-trip fares from £32. By black cab, The Pelham Hotel is approximately a 45 minute ride from Heathrow Airport (depending on traffic) and can cost upwards of £50.

What I liked:
location and decor.
What the hotel could do better:
the gym could be updated - it is very small and the equipment quite old.

What I liked:
Uniqueness of the property and location.
What the hotel could do better:
We were a little surprised our first night when the desk manager opened our hotel room at after mid-night without knocking. When I went down stairs to find out what that was all about, he mentioned that a guest was insisting that his room was room 6 and so the night manager went to check to see if the room was occupied. And it was. The night watchman could have called up to the room first. We were taken aback.

What I liked:
Location and its small size. The personnel quite helpful and friendly (except for the lady at the reception the first day).
What the hotel could do better:
When I arrived on a Monday morning there was only one person at the reception and had to attend everyone leaving and coming....Moreover I arrived around 11 am and had to wait until 1 pm to get my room. That I did not appreciate. I understand that I should have warned them of an early arrival , but even then they told me they do not guarantee availability... so what's the point?
