About The Rockwell:
The Rockwell Hotel is an independent budget boutique hotel situated in the Kensington district of West London. Earls Court Stadium, Earls Court Olympia, Harrods department store, the Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum as well as the shopping areas of Knightsbridge and Chelsea are all within walking distance. The Rockwell is also close to the wide green expanses of Holland Park and Hyde Park.
Tablet Hotels review:
Kensington's newest luxury boutique is something a bit different for the ultra-competitive London hotel scene — neither a chintz-laden country-house fantasy nor the deranged fantasy of an interior designer gone mad, the Rockwell is modern in a way that's sedate, restrained, maybe even a bit Scandinavian, behind that gleaming white Victorian facade.
This isn’t meant to be a case of damning with faint praise, however. Though it may be short on outsized gestures and over-the-top design statements, the Rockwell is full of personality: the bold patterned wallpapers are a contemporary take on classic English style, and the sleek modernist furnishings leave the impression that the architects, not some star decorator, had the last word.
As for creature comforts, the Rockwell is luxurious, though it stops a bit short of decadence. Notable in their absence are bath tubs; but notable in its presence is the hotel’s courtyard garden. The mezzanine suites are split-level apartment-style lofts, and the garden rooms each have their own south-facing patio, a rarity for a London hotel room.
The Rockwell’s restaurant is a fine one, well worth staying in for a meal. And, although The Rockwell's immediate surroundings are hardly inspiring, nearby west-central London beckons; Kensington and Chelsea surround you, with no end of museums, galleries, and shopping and dining options — even Hyde Park is just a short hop away.
