The Scent Hotel

58/1 Moo4

Bophut, Koh Samui, Thailand

Style: Contemporary Classic

Atmosphere: Quiet

15 Rooms

You have to be pretty confident in your aromatherapy skills to name a boutique on the beach The Scent Hotel. On the other hand, oceanfront views mean, in this case, oceanfront fragrances, drifting into and out of the colonial-style property, causing long linen curtains to billow in the breeze. Staying on an island in Southeast Asia has never smelled so good.

Rooms are decorated in one of three styles: local, with bright colors and rattan; Chinese, in dark lacquer and soft fabrics; and Western, something a bit like a minimalist European design hotel. Regardless of which you choose, you’ll be able to see the Gulf of Thailand; some rooms have terraces with pillow-heavy hammocks, and some overlook the pool, which is a remarkably tranquil scene, especially for Koh Samui. Rest assured, you won’t be woken by limbo contests in the night.

Upon arrival, you’re given a fifteen-minute head-and-shoulder massage, as well as fresh fruit or punch, and, upon checkout, a bottle of oil. For a more extensive rubdown, book a treatment or ten at the HHOMM Spa, on site. If you’d rather be subject than object, you can take a fruit carving class, go kayaking, or watch one of the movies being screened in the tea salon. Le Jaroen Restaurant heightens the romance by serving its French and indigenous dishes under the stars.
