The long-awaited Standard Miami is here — and anyone who anticipated a carbon copy of the LA Standards will be in for a bit of a surprise. Still intact is the budget-chic philosophy — itself enough to raise an eyebrow or two in shamelessly glam Miami Beach — and unique to this particular Standard are a few novel solutions to the problem of shoehorning another big-deal hotel into the already packed South Beach scene.
First, the hotel is located off the main drag, on the quiet and mostly residential Belle Isle, along the Venetian Causeway just short of Miami Beach proper. A shuttle can deliver you to The Raleigh, very much in the thick of it, within minutes, but The Standard makes the most of its slight remove, such that it may furnish the kind of peace and tranquility that’s long since departed Collins Avenue. Well, relatively speaking, anyway — The Standard’s guests are not exactly wallflowers, and there’s always something going on in the bar; but compared to South Beach proper, this is practically transcendental meditation.
Second, and certainly related, is the spa, not at all a given in The Standard universe. Here not only are you comfortably sequestered from all the ballyhoo on the beachfront, but you’re surrounded by guests in Standard-issue white bathrobes, participating in the communal bathhouse culture of the place and indulging in mud wraps, steam baths, and the occasional swim in the chlorine-free Sound Pool, all to the tune of a live DJ.
Accommodations are smart and stylish — not oversized or particularly decadent, but very much more than adequate given that it’s possible to easily spend four times as much elsewhere in town. The décor is familiarly modern, in whites and blonde woods, and the look is familiar as well, blending mid-century Miami modernism with Scandinavian furniture from the same period — a look that is back in style all round the world, but resonates that much more strongly so close to South Beach.

After a frenetic destination wedding weekend at another hotel, we stayed at the Standard to decompress. The pool and spa were wonderful. The rooms are quaint but include some decent amenities (minibar, robes, ipod dock). The staff are accomodating and attentive, with drinks refilled timely at the pool. I will definitely return for a longer stay.I Disliked
The rooms were a little too beach chic and a little bare but for the price - a minor flaw!
Great vacation.

This is my second stay at the hotel. everything about it is amazing. I love that it's far away from the strip and the relaxing atmosphere and yoga are the best. The pool is one of the best I've seen.I Disliked
Front desk was difficult to get ahold of. Waiters at the pool were terrible. THey took forever and spent more time talking than checking on people's needs. (outside of one day when I had a female waitress who was incredible)
Definitely for young-at-heart adults

One reason I chose this hotel was because children under 14 are not allowed! Had a youthful, beachy vibe, waterfall jacuzzi near pool, attractive gardens with interesting seating areas. Very helpful staff, carrot and green drinks available on breakfast menu, a large, hot marble relaxation area in spa (I did their exclusive Soul Temple treatment. Nice!). Our room was probably the smallest one there, but the bed was very comfortable. There were (sheer) privacy curtains surrounding everyone's patio area which helps to give you a little more space. Each patio had a sort of adirondack chair as well as an outdoor tub! I had also booked through Tablet, and was quoted $199 for the room. When I arrived I was told it would be $223, but I was able to get it reduced since I showed them my email confirmation.I Disliked
You were essentially obligated to park with the valet service (or I was not aware of any parking lot or garage.) There was a parking lot out front, which is where I parked initially to check in, but I was told that this lot is not theirs and I could be towed at any time. (the lot was full when I got there and I did see others using it for check in as well). They said there isn't even a 15 min. grace period or anything, so they made it clear I was taking a chance by parking there at all. There is a 20 min. wait to get your car whenever you need it. Also, I may have misread the hotel info, but I thought there was a shuttle to South Beach. However, the shuttle only runs on the weekends, and only until something like 5pm on Sunday. Of course I arrived on a Sunday, and since check-in isn't until 4pm, the whole shuttle thing wasn't available. $8.00 latte was a surprise.461 user(s) found this review helpful
