The Westin Kuala Lumpur
Jalan Bukit Bintang
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Style: Contemporary Classic
Atmosphere: Lively

Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle, the business and commercial district at the heart of the downtown area, is home to a number of five-star megahotels, of which the Westin is one of the newest. This is state-of-the-art hospitality, on par with any of the best East Asian hotels, both in terms of luxury and service — and though Singapore and Bangkok may be better known as destinations, Kuala Lumpur has charms all its own.
The Westin's rooms are spacious, decorated in a modern international style, featuring the chain's trademark Heavenly Bed, and have views of either the famed KLCC Twin Towers or the historic city. High-speed internet access is standard in all rooms and conference facilities are extensive, fitting Kuala Lumpur's status as an economic capital.
One practical concern makes this hotel, and in fact all of Kuala Lumpur's luxury hotels, especially notable. Though the Malaysian economy is hardly depressed, having recovered handily from the Nineties crash, rooms here start at a dollar equivalent of about a hundred dollars — and the Malaysian ringgit is pegged to the dollar, an arrangement that is not likely to change anytime soon. This makes Kuala Lumpur the perfect place for a luxury hotel experience that would cost several times as much anywhere else — so travelers on a budget can live comfortably beyond their means.
