Not every hotel perched on the edge of the French Riviera is a glitzy behemoth or an art-deco palace — although from certain vantage points it certainly seems that way. The Yaktsa is a small luxury hotel that places the glamour of the region into a more intimate setting. The hotel’s laid-back, Moroccan-tinged version of Cannes’ movie-star sheen extends to the town of Theoule-sur-Mer, around the other side of the bay to the west of Cannes, which exists as a less-bustling alternative to its more famous neighbors.
Outside, manicured terraces wind from the edge of the water to the exterior of the hotel. Here lies the pool, flanked by radiant daybeds and umbrellas, perfectly situated to receive the cooling breezes of the Cote d’Azur. Inside, each of the twenty-one guest rooms features a panoramic ocean view. If that’s not soothing enough, the rooms are decorated in a palette of peaches and cream and offer an array of scented candles and personalized mood music. Vibrant splashes of red in the form of throw pillows and rugs should shake you out of your peaceful reverie in time to head down to the jacuzzi for a relaxing soak.
The restaurant, L’Or Bleu, serves up international dishes prepared with seasonal, locally sourced produce. In spite of its small size, Tiara Yaktsa boasts a Valmont beauty treatment center in addition to a fitness room. And Cannes is only a twenty-minute drive away — close enough for all your revelry needs, but distant enough for some hard-earned seclusion when you want it.
How to get there:
Tiara Yaktsa is located approximately 40 minutes from Nice International Airport. If coming by train, the hotel is located approximately 30 minutes from TGV Station in Cannes.
Transfers can be arranged from either the airport or train station. If driving, take the A48 motorway, towards Cannes-Aix en Provence. Take exit 40 for Mandelieu Centre La Napoule Théoule sur Mer. Follow signs for the seaside Théoule sur Mer via the N98. Cross Mandelieu la Napoule and then Théoule sur Mer. Drive for another 3 km. The hotel will be on the left. What I liked:
The atmosphere and location and facilities were wonderful. The view was tremendous.
What the hotel could do better:
Our room was directly above the kitchen for the restaurant and we smelled food in the room. The breakfast was good but $29 euros was a bit steep. Otherwise everything was wonderful.
