If you’re a Vail old timer you might not even recognize the Tivoli Lodge in its new incarnation. The Sixties-vintage Alpine-style lodge was rebuilt from the ground up, and while it hasn’t gotten any less Alpine, it’s a whole lot less Sixties — the average room at the new-look Tivoli is oversized, even by modern standards, and while it’d be a stretch to call the style modern, there’s a contemporary simplicity to the cozy, warm-toned interiors.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the ownership; the Tivoli Lodge is still a family affair, and the hands-on owners ensure that the atmosphere is always personable and friendly, not something that can fairly be said of all of Vail’s lodges. Ultimately it’ll be “soft” attributes like atmosphere and service that keep repeat guests coming back — for while the Tivoli Lodge can’t match the physical luxuries of Vail’s ultra-high-end properties, its village location places the town and the mountain right at its guests’ feet.
The lack of a restaurant, in fact, serves the Tivoli Lodge well, as anyone who’s spent time in Vail at the height of the season can attest. There’s no shortage of venues in the village for eating, drinking and everything else — to have the Tivoli’s Brown Hound Lounge as your own is a welcome comfort indeed.
