  2. “Superb location, excellent service. Room was spacious, elegantly decorated, lots of closet space, and equivalent to a "junior suite" elsewhere. Welcoming bottle of good wine from the manager was an added bonus. Evening turn-down service was first rate, including replenishing of bathroom towels and amenities. Another nice amenity was the offer of free coffee brought to the room before 7 am, which was very welcome the day of our early check-out. The hotel made our first stay in Madrid all the more enjoyable.”

  4. “I actually learned of the hotel thru a coworker who stayed there in the past year for vacation also. The hotel was excellent and I considered it very upscale at a reasonable price. It was much better than I expected.”

  5. “The location was excellent. You could walk to all the major attractions in Madrid. I emailed the concierge for information on trains, bullfighting etc. and he was a gem. The actual room was terrific as it had a separate sitting room and even though we were on the first floor it was very quiet. Also, a big plus was our room was available upon our arrival at 0930.The bar was adequate although they allowed smoking, so we didn't go in. It was a pleasure”

  6. “The hotel is in an excellent location. Very friendly staff and very good service. Facilities are slightly limited for a 5 star hotel and the hotel bar closed quite early for Madrid. Bedroom and bathroom were very comfortable. We were given an bottle of Cava on my husband's birthday which was a lovely touch. Very pleased with our choice. Would suit people looking for relatively elegant comfort and excellent central location but not those looking for a "buzzy", lively hotel.”

  7. “I had stayed at the Villa Real nine years ago, soon after its opening I believe. What was remarkable was that the same personable and attentive Front Desk staff were still there! Unfortunately the furniture in the room I was in was a bit worn, chipped and needed a good dusting (this was quickly done upon my request. The location is perfect, quiet with a charming little in front, yet very accessible and just a short walk from the museums, the Retiro and the Plaza Mayor. I would definitely stay there again: the staff services made up for the declining furnishings in the room.”

  8. “I am familiar with the Villa Real as I have stayed there before, but the hotel now needs a make-over. Competition in the area is strong and Villa Real no longer looks like a 5-star offer. Public areas, particularly the lounge, are ordinary at best. Staff remain good.”

  9. “Nice hotel. The only two problems we had were: they run out of hot water for the shower and for some reason, the hotel is very noisy. It was very easy to hear other rooms and people in the hallways from within our room.”

  10. “We very much liked our stay at the Villa Real. Service was excellent. Room was excellent. Only complaint was that it was we could easily hear the people in the room upstairs and next door so it was a little too noisy at night. Other than that, we really enjoyed staying at the hotel and would recommend it to other people.”

  12. “Our room was lovely, but that was because we (were surprisingly) upgraded to a junior suite. We had no trouble at all with street noise, but you could indeed hear sounds of the hotel "workings" (water, foot steps, doors opening) through the walls/floors/ceiling. We had requested a baby cot, but it wasn't actually in the room when we arrived (and at first we were told it'd be delivered sometime in the evening, but babies also nap during the day!) and it took about 30 mins after check-in (and 3 phone calls) to get it right away. Service at the front desk was pleasant, but reserved (not friendly)”
