  1. “You step into the future or some version of it when you enter the Hotel Tomo and as of this writing the future is colorful and doesn't cost a lot of money. The room was large, with great anime images on the wall and great touches everywhere you looked included Frette bathrobes and plasma screen TV with games. I liked the iPod doc and clock combo though didn't trust it to wake me up. A great cross section of people stay at the Tomo from businessmen in suits to fashionistas lugging a dozen suitcases.Across the street is Japantown and a 1/2 great places to eat. a few blocks away is Filmore loaded with restaurants. The stores there seem to close early, maybe an SF thing, at 6 or 7:00pm”

  3. “My husband and I went to San Francisco for our honeymoon, and decided to go with this hotel because it looked really interesting. We absolutely loved it!We weren't sure what to expect since it is a "Best Western," however everything was great. The staff was excellent. They were very helpful when checking in, and I felt they went above and beyond expectations by offering us suggestions and giving us a tour of the room and the amenities. The style of the hotel was great and we loved our room. The room had a "Fatboy" beanbag chair that we loved so much that we ordered our own and had it waiting when we got home!Staying in Japantown was a great experience as well. There are a ton of great restaurants and shops around. I would definitely love to stay at the Best Western Tomo again!”

  4. “The rooms are modern, very clean and warmly decorated. My husband and I wanted an affordable, centrally located hotel and this was it! We will always stay here when visting friends or on business in San Francisco. If you are a young entrepreneur on a budget this is the hotel for you.”

  5. “Tomo features a whimsical & colorful personality, comfortable beds, frette bedding, and rooms that are large and sunny, especially by cramped San Francisco standards. Located in a neighborhood with much to explore and reasonably close to the center of downtown, it's still a Best Western, but with some authentic details of Japan and management that has a keen sense of art-direction and is proud of what they offer. At breakfast, we realized it was indeed the serious-looking manager of the hotel restaurant whom we had seen featured in an advertisement for "shabu-shabu" in the hotel's elevator, wearing an asian gangster outfit with pimped out gold chain and holding a large plastic fish -- all in style that subtly poked fun at itself. Ask him about the meaning of the cat in the corner of the anime murals that cover the restaurant and you'll learn about all kinds of Japanese symbolism. Across the street is a Japanese mall that shouldn't be missed; there I overheard a non-Japanese dad pontificate on a particular Udon place to his very attentive seven year-old son, browsed a colorful and expansive Japanese bookstore which engages even if you don't speak Japanese. This place offers an escape to a delightful, unusual and slightly foreign place, much like San Francisco itself. It is very comfortable for a Best Western (if not quite so for, say, a Westin) and just a stone's throw from the major sights downtown.”

  9. “For a city hotel, an excellent price for large rooms. Location in Japantown is a 15-20 minute walk from the Bay, but in a nice neighbourhood with excellent Japanese and Korean food and shopping nearby (check out the nearby mall called the 'Japan Centre'). Simple but stylish with interesting (though, for some, slightly creepy) wall-sized anime-inspired murals in the rooms. Friendly service. Free Wi-Fi and internet terminals (including printing) in the lobby. This is not a run-of-the-mill Best Western.”
