  1. “everything! the teddy bears are even more adorable in person. but seriously, the design is top notch, but the attention to detail, and the warm individual service is even more impressive. rooms have wit and whimsy.”

  2. “We started our China holiday at JIA, and wished we could have carried the hotel with us around the country. The design was edgy and exciting in the public areas, and stylish but soothing in the rooms. Every handy goodie was available, down to the cable to play our iPod through the room's built-in speakers. The staff were friendly and efficient, and when asked for a restaurant suggestion came up with the perfect quirky place. And the evening prosecco and hors d'ouevres was the ultimate civilised touch. Can't recommend it highly enough.”

  3. “The hotel is a hip boutique hotel with modern design and relaxing ambience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is extremely convenient and the price is very competitive. The availability of both breakfast and tea snacks is very customer-oriented. I am very satisfied with my stay in JIA and will definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit to Shanghai”

  4. “The JIA has a convenient address. It's small, artfully decorated, and seems to load on the comps:Breakfast, faturing some very fine pancakes, coffee and cakes at midday, and wine in the evening. I got to know some of the staff by name and they always seemed delighted to see me - which isn't that important as I usually prefer anonymity, but I won't fault them for being friendly and wanting to converse.... you can plug an I-Pod into the sound system of your hotel room, which was well stocked with delicious oranges and chocolate gold coins for the new year. There was a little red book of Chairman Mao's sayings available in an English translation, bedside. My room had a small kitchenette with a french press coffee maker. I loved this hotel.”

  6. “The multi-lingual staff were professional but not scary poker-faces as is the case at many five-star hotels, and were fabulous and instinctive in suggesting restaurants and shopping trips (although they did seem to believe most western visitors would prefer to stick with westernized locations.) We had a corner balcony suite, which was huge for a hotel room, spotless, soundproof and had a style which was quirky and had personality without being pretentious. The black-out blinds kept the room dark in the morning, which is prized in a hotel room, and the bed and pillows were pristine and super-comfortable. The location was perfect, right near an underground train station and just off the great shopping strips of East and West Nanjing Rd. The complimentary afternoon cakes and pour-it-yourself wine in the evening in the guest lounge in the lobby were generous and welcome after a day in the noise of Shanghai, and we looked forward every day to breakfast (part of our accommodation package) in the second floor bar: smorgasbord of pastries, cakes, fruit, cereals and yoghurt, plus choice of two hot meals including asparagus wrapped in bacon with eggs. There's a guest laundry where you can wash and dry clothes instead of sending them off for expensive laundering. All up, the JIA was a fantastic choice.”
