Society wife Isabella Stewart Gardner commissioned this Venetian-style palazzo a century ago, as a home for her private art collection, and Renzo Piano signed on to design the 2010 addition. Free admission in perpetuity for anyone named Isabella.

The building which houses the museum along with its collection, belongs privately to Isabella Stewart Gardner. The museum first opened its doors in 1903 and houses around 2500 artworks including paintings, sculpture, furniture, textiles, ceramics, prints, drawings, manuscripts, rare books and jewelry. The museum also has a beautiful courtyard and garden. A must see in Boston.

Great little museum of ecletic art pieces collected by an interesting woman. If you have a child whose first name is Isabella, you can get her a lifetime membership with the museum. Some form of official i.d. is required. Just ask at the front desk, it's not otherwise advertised.
