The earth's crust is extraordinarily thin in Budapest, and hot underground water feeds thermal springs that have been used ever since Roman times for relaxing. Google "Budapest Spas" to find out more. I went to the turn-of-the-century Gellert, a unique and on the whole enjoyable experience, but unfortunately missed ladies night (Tuesday) at the 1550 Turkish bath at Rudas. I would have liked to hang out a week or two more and take in Szechenyi at City Park, with its huge outdoor pools and slides for kids, the literary hangout Lukasz, and the Platinus complex on Margaret Island.
