Just an hour on the hydrofoil from the Buquebus ferry terminal in BA is the Portuguese colonial settlement of Colonia, Uraguay - a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is fabulous - really laid back with beautiful streets to explore in the old town - lots of interesting architectural features on buildings/houses and vintage cars dotted around. If you have your driving license with you, you can hire a scooter/golf buggy to explore the coastal road. Colonia is very peaceful and a delight to spend some time at. Highly recommended and a very easy excursion to do in a day. Don't forget to take your passport and spanish phrase book!

The concierge helped us book a day trip to Colonia, an old fishing village. It was fun and easy - 1 hour ferry ride, rented bikes, did a wine tasting at Buen Suspiro, seafood lunch at Parilla Santa Rita... great/relaxing day to escape the big city!
