Lou Mitchell's is a diner that has the distinction of being the first landmark on Route 66. There is always a line around at least one block for Lou's at brunch time, but it's worth it for two reasons. Firstly, the food is ridiculously good, and secondly, they give you free homemade doughnut-holes while you wait. Everything here is good, and - in true Chicago style - hugely portioned (it's not uncommon to spend a large portion of your meal trying to figure out how large the chicken that laid the eggs for your omelette is). Make sure you get the greek toast with butter on the side.
