The famous amusement park isn't just about carousels and roller coasters — there's also a regular concert series, covering every genre from classical to modern rock.

Tivoli is many different things; Denmark’s most popular tourist attraction is simultaneously a national symbol, a bearer of tradition and the world's oldest amusement park. Tivoli is much more than just amusements, good food and entertainment; it is also fairy lights, flowers and above all romance. Tivoli is at its most romantic when darkness falls, but no matter when you choose to visit the Gardens it is like stepping into a magic universe.

Notwithstanding that we have a little girl, I was a little sceptical of visiting what is essentially a theme park. The Tivoli is a weird mix of tourists, locals, theme park and exceptional restaurants (two have Michelin stars). It really works. The place caters for such a broad range that it attracts and eclectic mix of people. We ate very well there three times - naturally most restaurants offer children's menus or half size mains.

Go at night when there's all the music and lights and ride the swings. You just must.
