Florence and the birth of the Renaissance is only put into perspective once you've seen Siena, it's neighboring rival town. They fought each other, disagreed with each other, and their art and architecture were a another form of combat... In Siena you see the birth of the Renaissance, in Florence, the dynasty of it.The road between them, possibly the most scenic single road in Tuscany, SR-222. Through the Chianti region and past more vineyards and palazzos than you can believe, you wind your way through heaven on earth to visit Florence's alter ego and foil, Sienna. If you "get it", try to see Lucca as well. Wonderful small town..
