In their store on the Via Maroncelli, Claudia and Mattia Frignani showcase their remarkable designs for furniture, lighting, and accessories. They’ve furnished a boutique for fashion designer Jean Paul Gautier, as well as hotels, restaurants, and galleries all over Italy. Constantly experimenting, they have combined unlikely materials such as aluminum and rattan, and invented finishes like leather that looks like stone. Cupboard handles are made of brass or aluminum cast from objects in nature. A large brass objet d’art turns out to have been cast from an enormous ancient nail. I particularly loved the brass and aluminum trays and bowls in various organic shapes, and, call me crazy, but I’m still thinking about that giant nail.
