Blue Canyon Golf and Country Club, 1 hour away, is one of the most legendary golfing clubs in Asia. It is located on 720 acres of a secluded, lush green valley and surrounded by the majestic mountains of Phang Nga and the Andaman Sea. Blue Canyon offers two award-winning 18-hole championship courses: the Canyon Course built in 1991 and the Lakes Course built in 1999.
Nominated for "Asia-Pacific Golf Resort of The Year" and "Asia-Pacific Golf Course of the Year" in 2000, the Club’s credibility and reputation as one of the finest private golf clubs in the region has been enhanced by its recent inclusion in the top 100 of The Finest Golf Clubs of the World list. The Johnny Walker Classic returned there in January 1998 -- won by Tiger Woods after a play-off with Ernie Els. Designer: Yoshikazo Kato. The Canyon Course features natural hazards, acres of lakes, towering trees, slick Bermuda Twiff Dwarf greens, contoured fairways and skillfully placed bunkers. Designed for golfers of all skill levels; with a choice of 5 teeing grounds allowing the course to be played from varying distances - from a length of 7,119 yards from the back tees to a comfortable 5,974 from the forward tees. The Lake Course site pre-construction was basically the same make-up as the Canyon course: a mix of rubber plantation and water filled canyons created by open-cast tin mining, but combined with more water hazards – water comes into play on 17 holes. Only holes 17 and 18 flow consecutively in the same direction. Gradual undulations make for a generally easy walking course. The 18 holes run continuously rather than two loops of 9. The course has been designed by the same designers as the Canyon Course to cater for a broad range of golfers with silver tees being added between red (ladies) and white (men’s) tees. With blue and black tees, a total of 5 sets of tees mean that whatever length you hit the ball; you will be able to enjoy hitting the target areas of the course. The 18th hole is probably the hole you will remember best – from the Championship tee there may not be a harder finishing hole anywhere in the world! 7,129 from the back tees and 5,030 from the front Par 72
