Formerly known as Gay Head, Aquinnah is the native Indian name for the area at the far end of the Island beyond Chilmark noted for it's great beachfront with clay cliffs and clothing-optional beach at the farthest end. Nothing like walking down the beach and seeing people covered in dry mud only to discover they are nude....ta-da! Now worries though as that area is at the farthest end of the beach while the closest part of the beach is completely suitable for kids. The clay is pretty cool and the beach has some great surf and an occasional sand dollar. The famous lighthouse is surrounded by the typical tourist-type of shops however they are a great place to pick up the summertime hemp bracelets.
