Enjoy the splendor of the ancient redwood trees in this state park named after the famous naturalist, John Muir. Only a 20 minute drive north of San Francisco, this park offers low impact walks along the floor or more strenuous hillside hikes. Wander into the Visitor's Center for historic and informational displays of the park and the redwood trees.
If you have a half day spare, there is nothing more amazing than seeing the redwood stand at Muir Woods. Just across the Golden Gate, so you'll need a car.
Beautiful, easy excursion from the city to see redwoods. If you have a car, park in the lot and take the shuttle up. Half day is more than enough time. Mai trails are broad and flat (some with boardwalks) - not strenuous. More remote trails for more active hiking.
