Buenos Aires is chock full of stylish boutique hotels, most of them geared towards chic leisure travelers. And then there are the “apart-hotels,” the all-suite properties that are aimed at the capital’s business travelers. Until recently, no one in Buenos Aires has attempted to bridge the gap between them. Urban Suites Recoleta, occupying an enviable piece of real estate across the street from the famous Recoleta cemetery, is one of the triumphant few: it’s a true boutique hotel with the spacious dimensions and handy amenities of an apartment building.
The look is contemporary, with Asian-inspired accents and the occasional futuristic design detail: look for blood-red walls and teardrop lamps in the lobby, and an understated breakfast bar that calls to mind a Japanese eatery with smooth wood paneling and flat-screen TVs. The sensibility is a bit more classic in the thirty-five suites. Outfitted in bright white, sandy beige and chocolate brown with bright pops of red, each suite is good-looking in a way that’s both stylish and warm, like you’re visiting a friend’s upscale apartment in the big city.
This is a place for the kind of cozy leather couches you’d actually want to sit on — Urban Suites isn’t sacrificing comfort for style here. Suite dimensions vary, the largest being the 9th-floor master suite with a private terrace and a full dining table and bar, but all have separate living areas and private balconies. The result is far more stylish than any corporate apartment, and a better option for low-key, longer-term living than most of the city’s boutiques.
