The locals will tell you Vail went upscale some time ago, but it’s only in the last few years that the town’s vaguely Sixties lodgings saw a major upgrade. Faced with stiff high-end competition from out of town, the hotels of Vail proper have upped the luxury ante. Among this crop is the recently (and quite thoroughly) renovated Vail Cascade, as representative a sample as you could ask for of the state of the art in tasteful, contemporary American ski hotels.
The hotel’s fact sheet, for once, bears reciting: a 78,000 square-foot fitness center with an indoor track, a 10,000 square-foot spa with an herbal steam room and 50 treatments on offer, no less than six tennis courts, a 42-inch flat screen in every room, ski-in/ski-out access to the mountain, hot tubs and balconies and mountain views galore. There’s enough here to actually deliver on the promise of entertaining guests year-round, whether they’re here to ski or hike or spa. This is a resort where you rent expertly tuned ski equipment on site, or if you’ve brought your own, where the ski concierge will store your gear out of sight for the evening. It’s a place where heated salt water, not some industrial-grade chlorine solution, fills the infinity pool overlooking Gore Creek.
With a dedicated kid’s program of season-specific activities, Vail Cascade is particularly well suited for families. In summer, for example, offerings include “dive-in” movies at the pool, s’more parties around the fire pit, tennis lessons and mom-daughter mani-pedis. Just this once “fun for the whole family” is a promise, not a threat.

What I liked:
Proximity to ski lift is great; they held our luggage while we skiied, and we could use the Spa afterwards to not only shower but to relax after a long day on the slopes.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!

What I liked:
Service was fantastic. Staff could not have been friendlier
What the hotel could do better:
Upgrade the rooms -- furniture in our room appeared damaged by ski equipment. Need better segregation of family-friendly spaces

What the hotel could do better:
The rooms need an upgrade! Almost all of the furniture looks damaged by skis or ski poles. Our shower curtain looked as though it had not been changed in months. The common space was overrun by kids and families during the day (all of them lovely). This is not a relaxing location for couples looking for a quiet ski weekend. The hotel could do a better job of expanding the common spaces and segregating the pool/hot tub
