Vain Boutique Hotel

Thames 2226, Palermo SOHO

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Style: Modern Design

Atmosphere: Lively

15 Rooms

From a certain angle the current boom in Buenos Aires high-design boutique hotels can come off a bit pretentious. But when a hotel comes right out and calls itself the Vain Boutique Hotel it’s impossible not to cut it a little slack. This is the kind of humor that’s too often lacking in these sorts of places, and it’s a good introduction to this clever little 15-room boutique in Buenos Aires’s terrifically stylish Palermo Soho neighborhood.

Like many of Buenos Aires’s best places, Vain is housed in a classic Twenties building, but it’s not stuck in the past — the well-preserved interiors, with more than a hint of Art Deco style, are brought to life by an eclectic collection of modern furnishings and artworks.

The most modest of the rooms are modest indeed, but they’re also excellent value for the money — and the top categories are suitably lavish, and quite stylish to boot. The suites come with private terraces, patios or balconies, while the standard rooms look out onto the street or inwards toward the central common patio. While there is a restaurant, it’s more a backup plan than anything else — in this neighborhood you’ll have trouble narrowing your culinary wish list down to a manageable size.
