Villa & Hotel Majestic

Many of our Parisian selections were chosen for a certain willingness to flout the conventions of the city’s opulent, high-gloss luxury-hotel tradition. Not the Villa & Hôtel Majestic. The Majestic is as Parisian as they come, from its location in the 16th — just yards from the Arc de Triomphe, with views of the Eiffel Tower — to its interiors, a sort of contemporary-rococo hybrid, complete with parquet floors, period architectural details, and accents galore in red and burgundy.

One area of departure: space is generally quite hard to come by in Parisian hotel rooms, as is in fact the case in quite a few major capital cities. The Majestic fares well in that department, its deluxe and grand deluxe rooms spacious enough, its suites, especially the penthouse and the long-stay private apartment.

The trade-off, of course, is the location, which, though scenic, wouldn’t quite be the first choice for a convenient stroll through the city. On the other hand, the inevitable muscle soreness induced by a bit of vigorous walking is something the Majestic’s full-service spa and health club is well positioned to do something about. The only thing keeping it out of the absolute highest league is the lack of a powerhouse restaurant.
