There are some places around the world where a name like Villa Paradiso would be a bit of an overstatement. On the shores of Lake Garda, however, talk of paradise seems entirely reasonable. And for this particular villa, in this particular corner of paradise, it’s an apt description indeed.

It wasn’t so very long ago that this was a private villa, and there’s still something rather discreet and unprepossessing about it — it’s scaled more like a country house than a resort, right down to the cozy bedrooms with their lake-facing balconies.

Far from residential, though, is the elaborate spa program. Clinical Beauty is an unlikely phrase, but again, it’s an apt description for a spa that’s one part beauty salon and two parts medically supervised “spa cure.” Guests book in for a week-long spa regimen, and the chef is available for a consultation at the beginning of your stay, to ensure that your diet isn’t working at cross purposes with your treatments. Don’t worry, you can probably make a case for the therapeutic effects of a bit of osso buco. And even if you’re here for a less intensive session, you’ll likely find Lake Garda — and this classic villa — to be as soothing as anything your doctor could conceivably have ordered.
