The D’Armiento family villa was built during the heyday of the Liberty Style, Italy’s take on the then-current Art Nouveau movement. Fully restored and transformed into a boutique hotel in 2010, the villa offers an experience that’s much bigger than its six rooms. If the surrounding parkland, full of regional flora like citrus groves and palm trees, along with upscale additions like an outdoor art gallery and wood-burning pizza oven just aren’t enough to keep you occupied, the villa is a quick walk both from the sea and from the center of Sorrento.
About those six rooms: the can be booked individually or all at once, if you’ve got the means and the inclination to live like Italian nobility for a week or two. Throughout the villa, the motif is clean lines, right angles, and white walls, the sort of modern Italian style where an occasional baroque. Charming accents and variations on the theme set each room apart from the others, and you’ll find plenty of welcome deviation in the lime green furniture, the period-spanning sculptural treasures, and the views out the window, either greenery or coastline — unless you book the Terrace Room, where your private rooftop provides unobstructed views of a huge swath of the Sorrentine peninsula.
Please note: Villa dei D'Armiento is open annually, March through October.
How to get there:
Villa dei D'Armiento is 1 km from the centre of Sorrento and a 10 minute walk to the Sant Agnello train station. The nearest airport is Naples International Capodichino airport which is 55 km from Sorrento. From the Naples airport, take the Curreri bus to Sorrento which leaves the square in front of the airport station. Ask the driver to let you off in the main square in Sant'Agnello di Sorrento, in front of the town hall and take a taxi from the train station. By train, take the local "Circumvesuviana" train from Naples Central Station to Sorrento and get off at the Sant Agnello stop (takes about an hour). From station take a taxi to the hotel.
