It may be fashionable to boast of having abandoned Thailand for parts less well-known, but deep down you know that as long as there’s still undeveloped coast, and thus new resorts to be opened, you’ll keep on finding reasons to come back. One compelling enough reason is X2 Kui Buri, set on another stretch of beachfront paradise just south of Hua Hin, a place where you can get a taste of the calmer, quieter Thailand that inspired all this travel in the first place.
The villas waste no time on thatched roofs or any such desert-island aesthetic — the stone walls and blond wood fixtures look relentlessly modern, and if you need reminding where you are, you can just take a look out at the beach. Many come with private plunge pools but even those that don’t are spacious and impeccably appointed; air-conditioned, with plasma televisions, DVD players, big sun-lit bathrooms, private terraces and gardens and indoor and outdoor showers.
