What I liked:

Staff were very helpful and attentive.

The restaurant was excellent. We ate at the chef's table in the kitchen. The waiter and the head chef treated us like family...the food was very special.

What the hotel could do better:

Nothing, had a wonderful stay!

Hotel Description

If you’ve got first-hand experience with Jocelyne Sibuet’s hotels (they make up a sizable fraction of Tablet’s south-of-France selection) then you’re probably already reaching for the “Book Now” button. For everyone else, allow us to fill you in on what, precisely, the big deal is — with a particular focus, naturally enough, on Domaine de la Baume, a late addition to the portfolio, located in the village of Tourtour, midway between Cannes and Marseilles in inland Provence.

Like so many of them it’s a classic concept, in this case an 18th-century country house, the former residence of the artist Bernard Buffet. In the details, however, the Domaine de la Baume is notable among the Sibuet hotels for just how closely it sticks to the original aesthetic of the place — it’s seen a very thorough renovation, of course, and a concurrent redesign, but the style is still resolutely 18th-century, just viewed from a modern perspective.

This means classic comforts like deep tubs and plush beds take precedence over high-tech gadgetry. Life here is simple in the way country-house life should be. The main event, most likely, is a nightly spell in François Martin’s dining room, though a daily visit to the Pure Altitude spa is unlikely to produce complaint. And from there you’ve got all the diversions of a working agricultural estate, and an endless series of courtyards, garden spaces and far-ranging Provençal views. Not one to be missed.

Please note: Domaine de la Baume is a seasonal hotel, open April 3 through November 1.

How to get there:

Domaine de la Baume is located 58 miles from Toulon-Hyères Airport (TLN). Please email CustomerService@TabletHotels.com for further information or assistance with transportation.
