Hotel Description

Since ancient times, Capri has been the place where the world's wealthiest and loveliest go on holiday. And if the town of Capri is where they frolic, then the Quisisana is where they sleep — actors, supermodels, and the entire Agnelli clan, owners of Torino's Fiat industrial group.

Even from the outside, the Quisasana looks like an elite habitat; delicately nineteenth-century and painted cream. Inside it is timeless with mirrors as far as the eye can see and the most dazzlingly tiled floors throughout. But the Quisisana is also the essence of Capri, which, thanks to Tiberius, is a decadent town that even DH Lawrence found too rich for his blood. It's ironic that it should have been built by an idealistic English doctor, who charged 8 cents to patients seeking a cure underneath the Mediterranean sun. Now the Quisisana is no longer cheap, nor particularly healthy — though it is still, quite simply, marvelous.

Both the pool and the outdoor cafe are popular. Mornings are usually crowded with tourists gawking at the Mediterranean view; in the afternoon, however, barely-dressed beautiful people emerge for a dip in the pool, while, at the café, better-dressed people congregate for a limoncello and a bit of rest after a long day of spending money. And the fashion and the people only get better as the sky gets darker.

A view of the Mediterranean from your room isn't a necessity, as those rooms that do overlook the sea are often partly blocked by trees. Of course the view isn't the main attraction — the thing about staying here is that you feel like a star. So many of them come here that you virtually blend in. Be sure, however, to dress the part — understated designer wear, real gems, and a fur wrap to ward off the chill. Who knows? Someone may just mistake you for a person of fame.
