What I liked:

Location. Two Brazilian gentleman who work there are fantastic and very accommodating. The owners were very gracious.

What the hotel could do better:

Our room was depressing. The bathroom is not well designed nor finished properly. It's not the kind of room you want to spend much time in. The dining room should be enchanting, housed in the former chapel. But, it is overlit, cold and not atmospheric- kind of cafeteria-like honestly. The menu is trying too hard to be haute to please Relais Chateaux standards. The Italian gentleman who first attended us at the front desk was not very gracious and even a little awkward. The additions (lobby area which was once exterior and the clunky glass sunroom) added to this majestic villa are architecturally awkward.

5 Favorite this hotel — to remember it, to save it to your wish list, or simply to express yourself

Hotel Description

Though not as heavily traveled as some of Italy’s neighboring regions, the Veneto has more than its share of charms. Verona is a major one, a small and picturesque city rich with history; another lesser-known one is the Villa del Quar, a 16th- and 18th-century villa on an estate just a few minutes to the north, one that’s now been painstakingly restored and opened to the public, in the form of a classic luxury hotel.

There’s plenty of the local style about the place, from vivid Venetian colors to that inimitable Murano glass. But the appeal is universal — lazing by the pool, with views of the surrounding winery estate, is a pleasant way to live, in the Veneto or Tuscany or anywhere else. Rooms are supremely comfortable and suites are downright sprawling — one even comes with a private elevator.

Everyone, though, has the run of the place, from the gourmet Arquade restaurant to brunch in the Gazebo to the clover-shaped swimming pool, ringed with parasols. This place is about the good life — there’s event space if you need it but far more attractive is the wine cellar, stocked with the finest bottles from Valpolicella and around the world.

Please note: Villa del Quar is open seasonally, April through October.
