Jumeirah in the Maldives, the hyper-luxe Dubai-based hoteliers in the world’s most desirable island destination — now there’s a combination that was always going to attract some attention. And if Jumeirah Dhevanafushi isn’t the most insanely luxurious hotel on the planet, it’s not for lack of trying.

It starts with a private island, a short flight (and then a shorter speedboat trip) from Malé. That’s pretty much the norm for this sort of place. But it’s what you find at the end of the journey that’s truly out of the ordinary here. The villas on the island, whether on the beach or a few yards inland, are as lavish as anything, with plentiful (and comfortable) living space, fully wired entertainment systems, marble plunge baths, outdoor rain showers and 24-hour butler service.

As usual, however, it’s the overwater villas that seal the deal. At Dhevanafushi they’re not located simply at the end of some perfunctory pier, but half a mile out into the lagoon, reachable only by boat (or some very determined swimming). They’ve got private decks, ocean views all around, private infinity pools and massive beds — and that’s before you get into the Sanctuary suites, which at 340 square meters are nearly the size of some of the archipelago’s smaller islands.

All this comes at a price, of course, but for this price there’s not much that’s beyond reach. The activities list includes just about anything you can do on, around or under water, and for variety’s sake, you’ll have the choice of three restaurants, plus the option of a custom-designed meal, served anywhere (and any way) you like.

How to get there:

Jumeirah Dhevanafushi is located 15 km (20 min) from the Kaadedhdhoo Airport. Mandatory round trip speedboat transfers can be organized upon request and are included in the rates. Please contact CustomerService@TabletHotels.com for assistance with airport transfers.
