We select, you rate. Scores are on a 20-point scale, and they're assigned by our members who actually stayed there. If a hotel's rating falls below 16, it's gone — so your post-stay review is actually our most important quality-control tool. Thanks for that.

If you’re surprised to see something quite so cosmopolitan in Brisbane, don’t feel bad. Limes was the first hotel of its kind in this town, but to be honest it would stand out in Melbourne, in Sydney, or anywhere else. The design, by Alexander Lotersztain, is front and center, from the organic forms of the façade to the rich textures of cowhide and raw wood.

The hotel’s neighborhood is Fortitude Valley, or simply “the valley,” which puts it both a few minutes from the Central Business District and, perhaps more to the point, right in the heart of Brisbane’s best nightlife and entertainment. It’s the ideal location for a hotel that’s equal parts lodging and social scene. The rooftop bar alone, not even mentioning the rooftop cinema, can surely hold at least as many people as the twenty-one bedrooms. And before you’ve gotten halfway down the block after stepping out the door, any number of bars and restaurants are calling you in, all run by the same folks who own the Limes — there’s a beer garden, a tiki bar, an underground lounge, a late-night wood-fired pizza place…. Suffice to say you won’t go thirsty, or bored.

Back at the hotel, the rooms are both visually striking and functionally quite well-equipped — rich dark colors, clean lines, the proper high-tech screens and docks, plus comforts like goose-down duvets and Appelles Apothecary bath products. They’re not enormous, but they’re comfortable enough for longish stays, each one with its own kitchenette. A luxury hotel it isn’t, not quite — the social life does tend to take over late in the evening — but for a high-design boutique, it’s more than substantial enough.

Please note: The hotel’s rooftop bar stays open (and often full) until 3 in the morning. Especially on weekends, noise from the bar will likely be audible from the rooms. Additionally, all guests must be at least eighteen years old.
