What I liked:

Beautiful interior; promised dinner on site.

What the hotel could do better:

Serve good food at a reasonable price, not price gouge on wine, allow guests to bring in their own food and wine as any other hotel would, be hospitable.

5 Favorite this hotel — to remember it, to save it to your wish list, or simply to express yourself

Hotel Description

The village of Marsolan, home to the Hotel Lous Grits, presides quite benevolently over the rolling hills of the Gers region. This is the so-called “French Tuscany” at its most (for lack of a more fitting adjective) Tuscan — where the landscape appears to have been transplanted straight from rural Italy, and the fortified hilltops haven’t changed much since pilgrims traversed the dirt roads between Toulouse and Bordeaux. There’s a sense of serenity that floats through the streets of the village, where the year-round population is in the low hundreds and the intimate Lous Grits represents the bulk of the tourist trade.

Comprising five rooms and one suite, the hotel is a robust take on the bed-and-breakfast concept — call it bed-and-breakfast-and-dinner-and-wine and you’ve got the right idea. The fact that it’s run by a mother-and-daughter team, rather than husband-and-wife caretakers, is a gentle, intriguing twist, and there’s something almost maternal in turning a dreary and monastic medieval building into a cozy, welcoming hotel. Here, the tiled rooms are full of warm colors and the heirloom furniture is cheery without being over the top. And there’s plenty of ceramic and ironwork from local artisans to keep the décor honest.

The wellness area is located in a former weaver’s workshop, and it’s fittingly homespun — a combination lounge and spa, it’s the kind of place where long soaks go hand-in-hand with fireside cocktails. Martine and Marie’s home-cooked dinners can be ordered by request, and guests shouldn’t let a meal go by without capping it with the local Armagnac, the region’s legendary brandy.

How to get there:

The hotel is located about 60 miles from Toulouse. For any assistance with transportation, please contact CustomerService@TabletHotels.com.
