What is this?

We select, you rate. Scores are on a 20-point scale, and they're assigned by our members who actually stayed there. If a hotel's rating falls below 16, it's gone — so your post-stay review is actually our most important quality-control tool. Thanks for that.

ME Barcelona is hard to miss. Rising from the city’s low-slung yet metaphorically ascendant Poblenou (“new town”) neighborhood, the hotel is a big, slightly precarious-looking glassy geometric block. The architecture alone is enough to make it a symbol of the neighborhood’s ambition to become the region’s working home for technology and design, but as emblematic as it is of its changing surroundings, ME Barcelona is more than just surfaces and symbols. It’s the inside that counts, after all, and inside the ME Barcelona is a modern Spanish pleasure palace.

There are, of course, DJs, both at the first European outpost of American post-post-punker Pete Wentz’s darkly hedonistic Angels and Kings club, and at the bar that serves the enormous cantilevered pool deck. The latter is like an entire neighborhood of Balinese day beds and loungers, inhabited by beautiful people who seem to spend their days primarily prostrate. (The crowd comes to life, in force, after dark.) Then there are the restaurants, among them the Michelin-starred Dos Cielos, from a pair of Barcelonan brothers who’ve come home, after tours of duty in places like the Plaza Athénée in Paris, to serve their native molecular gastronomic cuisine. Suffice to say they do it justice.

Fortunately the rooms are as restful and private as the public spaces are buzzing and social. For one, they’re all sound-proofed, an especially important detail in a city that stays up as late as Barcelona does. The height of the building only emphasizes the sense of privacy, towering in silence above the Mediterranean on one side and, on the other, an expanse of rooftops far below. Between the post-modern art, the colorful lighting, the abundance of reflective surfaces, you might think the party would follow you to your room, but to sink into the pillow-top bed is to be reminded that a good snooze does not require a palette of cream and beige. And if you’ve partied half as hard as some of the other rock stars that find their way to ME Barcelona, you’ll want a good snooze indeed.
