What is this?

We select, you rate. Scores are on a 20-point scale, and they're assigned by our members who actually stayed there. If a hotel's rating falls below 16, it's gone — so your post-stay review is actually our most important quality-control tool. Thanks for that.

If Lisbon is a laid-back city, Cascais is a town in full repose. And if you’re going to kick back in Cascais, just thirty minutes west of its big-city neighbor, Onyria Marinha is about as fine a venue as you’ll find. The modern hotel, all glass and light and space, is made for gazing out at the calming coastal scenery, and the activities on offer are just the right pace for a weekend escape from the city.

The hotel sits at the edge of an 18-hole golf course, and the course is a beauty. Designed by the prolific Robert Trent Jones Sr., it begins more or less at the hotel’s doorstep before winding toward the Atlantic coast. You’ll have to forgive your fellow golfers if there’s a little bit of a bottleneck at holes 13, 14 and 15; it would be an act of extreme stubbornness not to pause and take in the views. For non-golfers, similarly impressive seaside views can be had on bike (there’s an extensive network of bike-paths along the coastline), by horseback (the hotel has its own stables), or in the course of a leisurely stroll on any number of nearby trails.

Serious spa-goers will recognize the importance of the last word in the hotel’s name, Thalasso. Technically it’s just the Greek word for “sea,” and no doubt proximity to the sea is an important element of the hotel’s character, but it’s also shorthand for thalassotherapy, the use of seawater in spa and wellness treatments. The water treatments, of course, are a specialty, though all manner of others are available in the gorgeous spa, which in addition to the treatment rooms has all the saunas, sensation showers and country-spanning styles of bath (Turkish, Scottish) that you’d expect.

How to get there:

Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso is located 33 minutes, by car, from Aeroporto da Portela Lisboa (Lisbon's International Aiport). Please contact for more information or assistance with transfers.
